Oh, no, Gary just read the headline for this blog and he has a serious disagreement with it. He says I can just speak for myself.
Oops. After we had visited the Boulder City Museum and the Boulder Dam, we stopped at Costco to buy some groceries for our week in Death Valley.
Then we tried for the quintessential Las Vegas experience. Jerry and Shirley had gotten a 2 for 1 coupon for dinner at a local casino. With that came 2 t-shirts, $5.00 for each of them in the casino and these fine dog leashes. Well, at least to me, they looked like dog leashes until Jerry told me what they were.
We decided that it sounded like so much fun and such a Las Vegas experience that, when we also found this coupon, we had to try it too. We should have done it with them. We obviously are naifs in the casinos. We got to the casino with our coupons and the guy signed us up for a ‘Player’s Card’. Don’t tell my parents that I have a ‘Player’s Card’. You have to get this before you get anything else. With the player’s card came the dinner coupons the casino cash’ and the dog leashes.
We hied our way to the restaurant but, Gary decided he’d like some spaghetti and I’ve been hankering for a hamburger so we chose the regular restaurant and not the buffet. 1st mistake. Seems the guy who gave us the player’s card gave us a coupon for the buffet. And, the coupon was only for the buffet. However, the buffet was $8.99 and our two meals cost $9.00. Not enough difference to complain and we got to eat what we wanted.
Good meal and then it was time for the CASINO. Now, I have to explain that Gary and I have never been in a casino. Well, that’s not exactly true, we’ve been IN one but we have never gambled in a casino. We’ve seen slot machines, we’ve never used one. So our looking for the ‘perfect’ slot machine is cat looking for the perfect sneakers to wear. We wanted a quarter machine so that we wouldn’t need to sit there for long. We saw lots of penny machines but no quarter ones. Then we figured that we could play lots of pennies at once and get it over with fast.
We sat down at an empty slot machine and - HOLY COW, there are lots of buttons. I thought there’d be one that you’d just keep pushing. Ok, now I’m confused. The girl next to us was pretty focused on her machine so I didn’t want to interrupt her but an employee was walking past us so we asked him how to pay the slot machine. He laughed as if he had just seen a jackalope, something that just doesn’t exist. But he was good, he helped us with the machines. Ok. Gary was off. So, I sat down at another machine. 2nd mistake. Without a clue, I pressed a few buttons. 3 presses and I was done. How had that happened? Gary was still playing. I guess I hit some button that said: ‘One and Done.’ Oh, well, it wasn’t my money anyway. And, if the goal was to get it done as fast as possible, then I won.
Gary ended soon after I did. And he had won $1.63 - must be because he rubbed the toes of the statue at Boulder Dam. Whoopee. And, I didn’t.
Time to go home. It’s been a long day. Exciting and interesting. And, now we can say we played the slots.
