The goal for the day was to play catch-up on finances, pictures, maintenance on the RV and so forth. But, the afternoon came and we decided that instead of taking our usual ‘let’s-walk-fast-and-get-it-over-with’ canal walk, we’d rather take a trail. We agreed on what is called the Butcher Jones trail, a nice short trail though the usual desert flora and fauna but which shows a different side of Arizona: a lake with boats, fishing, swimming and sitting on the beach. Of course, in winter, we’re not going to see any swimming but the lake is a sight in itself. The views are spectacular and the trail is none too shabby itself.
There’s a large marina on the lake and it shows up as a white dot on the further shore.
Through a canyon we can see Flatiron, a mountain in the Superstition Range.
And, at the end of the trail, we have views of the 4 Peaks in the distance.
On the way back, we saw this print in the sand on the trail. Probably from a large dog but it looks so large and the claws are so long.
Not only was the hike a marvelous hike but the drive to the hike is nice in itself.
Tomorrow, we’ll do the canals.
