Titusville, FL - Just a Hike

We’ve now driven up to the Titusville area for our next week. As we were driving up here, we pulled into a rest area and saw this boat which Gary is sure has his name on it.

Hey, who says that Florida is flat? Oops, this is one of those ‘man-made’ mountains.

Short blog today since we busied ourselves with administrative tasks in the RV for the morning and then went to find a place to walk and get groceries in the afternoon. We met a woman as she was walking her four greyhounds. One of them was not well and soon she picked it up, put it into her wagon, covered it with blankets and continued on her walk.

We found a place called the St. John’s National Wildlife Refuge but our directions were not quite accurate nor complete so we futzed around a bit. But finally found a small sign, close to the ground, behind some tall grasses that told us that the hike we wanted was in there. And, we drove in ‘there.’ Not an exciting hike and, since the cows used this as their pasture, we found lots of small moguls to avoid as we zig-zagged our way down the old cow path. But, it was a nice walk and we enjoyed being out doors.

Here are a few pictures of our trail and walk.

Lest you think it’s always warm down here, it was about 52 when we walked today. Now, my brother who is out shoveling snow in the teens, will tell me what a wimp I am but, hey, we’re snowbirds for a reason. Actually, it was a beautiful day though the temps didn’t make it out of the low 50’s. The sun felt warm and we dressed for the occasion.

People always ask what wildlife we’ve seen and sometimes we’ve seen some pretty cool things. However today, our wildlife sightings boiled down to these two:

And, believe you me, that snake is awfully small. No bigger than my thumb at its biggest.

Since I’ve got some space here, I thought I’d put in some pictures I’ve taken over the last few weeks that I haven’t found a place to put yet. Pictures I like but didn’t seem to fit in anywhere.

We had a marina in our campground in the Keys where the pelicans loved to hang out - especially near the fish-cleaning shed.

This pelican seemed to pose for me before he flew off.

The sunset over the marina was gorgeous.

Gary and I wear Tilly hats when we’re out in the sun. Usually they look fine but sometimes when we’re in the wind as we were on the boat going into the Everglades interior - they are less than flattering. Gabby Hayes comes to mind.
