Today we went shopping for groceries - to Costco. We got there first thing in the morning - before all the demonstrators were out with their foods. Shucks. We’ll have to time it better next time. Of course, the sizes of boxes and bags at Costco are huge and a bit difficult to store in our little RV. However, we seem to get it all in. We probably have enough now so that we won’t have to make a major shopping trip until we get back to Hy-Vee in Des Moines. We’ll have to stop for produce and milk but most of the rest is covered.
Sometimes I have some neat pictures that just don’t seem to fit in anywhere but they still show some of the things we see and are doing.
Here’s a picture that you’ve all see of what are called the Painted Laides, 6 Victorian homes on Alamo Park in San Francisco. If you get to the park in the afternoon when the sun is shining on them, stand on the hill opposite them on the park you can get a neat juxtaposition of the old and the new with the city rising behind them. This is a shot that is in just about every book written about San Francisco and every tourist shop has a postcard with this shot on it.
Here is a unique way to get about the city:
If you have seen the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, you’ve seen this shot. This is the home where Sally Field and Robin Williams lived in San Francisco.
Most of the homes in the city are older and have no garage or just a one car garage. Since cars were smaller when the homes were built, the garages were smaller. Here is a typical garage - you’ll be able to get your Porche inside it but not your Jeep Liberty. Note the stunning paint job. Very typical of the Victorian homes in the city.
Here’s a young girl in our campground who is trying to figure out how to make a kite fly. Her technique was to run in circles.
Here’s a before shopping and after shopping. Sometimes we get so busy that we don’t get to the grocery store and the larder gets a bit thin. Don’t think we’re suffering tho, we’ve got more than enough to get us by. We haven’t starved yet - we still have chocolate and popcorn.
We love walking through this city since there are so many beautiful old homes. Every street has homes that look like this although sometimes they are next to homes that need a lot of tender loving care.
And here’s a kiosk that we passed on the street. Sure enough, it’s a pay bathroom.
And, here’s a cross walk between two of our stairways. This was on the Vulcan Stairway and one of the unique touches that make it one of the most visited.
