Of course, nothing goes as smoothly as you would wish when you’re in for service. We spent a good part of yesterday evening in the Freightliner Customer Service area waiting for our motorhome to get road worthy. Note the heavy metal finish of the truckers lounge where we found ourselves. We met one guy here who had been here for 8 days waiting for his truck to be fixed. He thought our one night wait was a piece of heaven.
We had thought we might be able to sleep in it that night at the side of their lot but, since it was not ready yet, we got a bonus night in a local motel. It was clean and had a great shower so I was happy.
The next morning we headed back to Freightliner and, after a wait of about 2 hours, the RV was ready and we took off. We got to within softball tossing distance of the campground when the overheating problem started again. Gary pulled to the side of the road, waited for the motor to cool down, made a u-turn and headed back to Freightliner. Here, Bob, one of their most experienced mechanics thought a bit, got out his computer, plugged it into our Cummins engine and we took off for a 10 mile drive with Bob monitoring our engine. No overheating problem here. Of course not, we’ve got the tech right here - you know nothing bad is going to happen.
Actually, the Cummins engine keeps a record of every strange event and all of the times that our engine overheated were recorded and he could see these on his computer. Not that that solves the problem, but at least, he could see that we weren’t making this all up. He gave us what he thought had happened when the engine had overheated on our way to the campground and we took off again, hoping against hope that the problem was solved. At least this time, we made it all the way to the campground.
We are staying at the KOA here in Grand Junction and they were very nice to let us shift our reservation over one day, since we hadn’t stayed here one night. What a kind gesture since they might have been able to rent that spot out if it had been available.
We took a short walk around the area here in the evening and found this street name: A 1/2 Street. We have also noted 28 1/2 Street. Must have run out of names.
We tried to hike a trail close to the campground but the muddy ground glommed onto our boots so thick that it was tough to walk. At this rate, in half an hour of walking in this, I would have been 6’ tall.
