Mesa, AZ - Road Trip?

Just what we wanted to do: close up the RV, unhook the utilities and take a ride. But, when we came down to Arizona we noticed that it seemed a bit sluggish on the hills. So, today is the day when we test drive it up and down some hills to see if the engine needs some work. Yec-h-h.

And, we’re off. We chose the Beeline Highway which connects Payson, AZ to the Phoenix area, because it has several long grades and because it is actually quite a pretty drive. If you’ve got to take a test drive, might as well make it as much fun as possible. The hillsides are covered with rocks rounded by the erosion, the wind and the rain.

Off in the distance we can see the Superstition Mountains with the iconic Weaver’s Needle in the middle.

And, my favorite, this is where the other half of the 4-lanes circles under our lanes and we can see the north-bound vehicles on our right. Eerie.

Did we find anything wrong? Nope, we must just have forgotten that our RV is just like us - it slows down a bit on the long slow up-hill grades. Whew.

Meanwhile, we noticed some rust on our entry steps so Gary is working to get rid of it and repaint them. He’s already got the black rust-remover and preventative on the top step and is getting ready to put it on the bottom step - and some on his knees, some on his shorts and some on his arm. Good man, covering all the bases.

And, finally, in this blog of relatively nothing, I have a picture of chocolate covered cherries. My father didn’t each much candy - he was more of a popcorn kind of guy - but he did like a box of chocolate covered cherries at Christmas. Well, every Christmas, I buy a box just in his memory. But this year, I was stunned to open the box and find this.

Look, a box used to have 2 layers with 10 candies on each. Now, 2 rows with lots of plastic, lots of air and only 10 candies. What a rip off.

‘This guy found a bottle on the ocean, and he opened it and out popped a genie, and he gave him three wishes. The guy wished for a million dollars, and poof! There appeared a million dollars. Then he wished for a convertible, and poof! There was a convertible. And then, he wished he could be irresistible to all women… poof! He turned into a box of chocolates.’
