AJ, AZ - Oops

Hey, how come our carpet is sopping wet here?

Huh?

Yeah, this spot on the carpet is sopping wet.

And, that’s how the adventure started. At the foot of the bed, on Gary’s side (that’s why I didn’t notice it) was a 5” in diameter round wet spot. Gary found this in the middle of the night. Not just damp, not just wet, but sopping wet. Touch it with your hand and your hand is dripping. Oops. Looks like we stay home today and find out why and how to fix it.

It was puzzling: the carpet was wet but the plywood beneath it was merely damp and the spot was almost round. It looked like a drip from above but there were no tell-tall signs on the ceiling and no spot where it could have come from up there. Well, it had to come from somewhere. The obvious culprit was the shower since the spot was about 8” from the shower stall wall.

Luckily there were some heat vents that he could take off to feel the subfloor under the carpet. Nothing there. Next he took off a heat vent under the shower itself and looked in. He couldn’t see anything with his light. However, my arm is small enough to fit through so I laid down on the floor on my back, stuck my arm in as far as I could and felt around. I found the pipes for the hot and cold water. Nothing there. Then, I felt under the faucets. Aha, wet carpet.

Gary’s project was then to take the faucets apart, tighten the fittings and reseal and re-attach them.

No water on the carpet that evening. No water the next morning, No water that evening either.

Looks like it’s solved. But, how did it happen while we’re just sitting here? We’re not moving. When we’re driving, every time we hit a bump on the road, we shake our house. We expect things to come loose - but on the road, not while we’re standing still.

Luckily we had the time to fix it while we were here.

And, now my sweet hugga-bunch tells me that our house needs an oil change
