Time for a hike. North of San Diego is a mountain called Iron Mountain, a very popular place for San Diegans to hike. 3 miles in and up, 3 miles down and out. 360 degree views from the top and there are even picnic tables on the top and bathrooms at the trailhead. It wasn’t take-a-number time on the trail but it was being well-used today. And, that’s just great. We love to see others on the trails.
We wound our way up, had lunch and a long conversation with another hiker then wound our way half way down. Here we found a side trail to an overlook. Here we found a young mother with 2 under 5-yr old kids hiking with her and a young child in a carrier on her back. She was about 2 miles in on the trail. (Those 3 are some hikers.) Only 1/2 mile so we took it. Yeah, at the end of that, we found we could continue on, over the saddle and back to the trailhead via a new trail. Just the ticket, a loop, our favorite. Going up and down the same trail is a bit boring so we really like loops.
And, what a nice loop it was. We even found a small ‘forest’ and stream.
Back at the trailhead, we looked on our smart phone for he nearest Rite Aid, for a dish of mocha almond fudge for me and a dish of chocolate chip for Big Gar. But somehow, we got distracted by a trip to a local Electronics big box store to look for a GPS. And, it was then too late for ice cream.
At the electronics big box, Gary met a new best friend who wanted to tell him about his GPS’s, his travels, his job and - so forth. Then he met a new best friend in the bathroom who wanted to tell him all about the new big screen TV he had gotten for the Super Bowl.
Oh, well. Fun hike and Gary met lots of new friends.
