We’ve been so busy these last few weeks that I haven’t had much time to write my blog. One of our projects was to see if we could decrease the size of our storage unit and thus the size of our monthly payment. Easy to say, but it took several days of work. Here we are in the storage unit. First, what it looked like before we started. This is 15’ x 10’. Lots here.
We had to move the stuff somewhere and why not the hallway? Luckily, no one wanted to get into their unit today. Temporarily we also moved lots of stuff into an empty unit, where Gary is standing, just to get it our of the hallway so we could carry stuff down to our new storage unit at the end of the hallway. Shuffling our stuff around. What to keep and move to the new storage unit, what to give away, what to take to Goodwill, what to toss (and why have we held it so long?) and what to take to the consignment store?
Finally, Gary is standing in our new 5’ x 10’ unit. Much smaller but packed to the gills.
And, now the hallway, with all our stuff put away. The owner of the storage area was very generous to us. She let us have 2 units while we were in the process and then backdated the monthly payment so that we only paid for the smaller unit. Very nice.
The final step was taking our furniture to the consignment store. So sad. I loved the Mission-style furniture but, for the cost of the storage unit over the years that we will need it, it would be cheaper to buy the furniture again - when we ever get a new house. Hey, those chairs are from a dining room set we bought in Rhode Island about 40 years ago. When the consignment store labeled it for purchase, they called it 'Vintage Dining Room Set.' Actually, most of our stuff is vintage.
