San Diego, CA - Nothing Doin'

Well, we’ve been here almost a week now and what have we got to show for it? Not much. We’ve been to the ocean a few times, we’ve seen my aunt Marilyn but we’ve mostly been doing some pretty mundane things.

First, my brother, who turns 65 on Feb 29th (hmm, no Feb 29th this year - must not need a present this year) is getting onto Medicare and needs some supplemental insurance to fill in the Medicare gaps and a prescription plan. The state volunteer groups who help those turning 65 with their options really are good. And their booklets with comparisons of plans is invaluable. But, it still takes time. Then, we found a broker who then got my brother and me on the phone and talked us through it all.

Secondly, we cleaned the Jeep and the RV. We took some time since it was pretty dirty after being on the desert for a while. Dust, sand, rain - all had made their mark and took some time getting off.
Of course there was a stop at Costco, if only to get get gas. But, we also did some shopping. Right across the parking lot was IKEA where I wanted to look to see if we could do some furnishing of our new home in Mesa. Funny, as we crossed this huge parking lot, we saw this - a guy golfing - in his business clothes, sending golf balls in to? Well, I’m sure they weren’t golf balls but what in the world is he doing?

In side IKEA in the children’s department we saw a cute scene - a kid inside a little chair with a tent twisting around.

We were intrigued by the HUGE cinnamon rolls that they serve in their cafeteria. But, as this sign clearly states: they are not this big - where it says ‘Not actual size.’

Because we were in the mall area, we stopped in to the Apple store and I then bought some new shoes. The big shopping center in San Diego is right in the middle of a valley, surrounded on both sides by huge cliffs. Now why they would put major shopping area into a valley where it might flood is beyond me. We’ve been in this area for about 6 years and several times, we’ve heard of flooding in the parking lots around the malls. Here are some sand bags left over from the January flooding right in front of a store near Macy’s.

We’ve taken some walks along the bay and ocean. We’re used to hiking mountains so had to find some place to get some altitude here in San Diego. Steps? Well, what ever works.

Oh, yeah, we visited out favorite Korean bakery which we learned about last year. Check out these sweet delicacies.

They look big and heavy but are really quite light and airy. The taste is great and you don’t feel as if you’ve got a medicine ball in your stomach.

There you have it - nothin’ doin’.
